Sangamon Valley Trail bike path construction moving forward
SANGAMON COUNTY, Ill. (WICS) —
Work on converting an unused railroad bridge into a bike trail is moving forward.
Right now, workers are installing railings over the abandoned bridge over the Sangamon River.
After it's completed, the bridge will be a part of the Sangamon Valley Trail Bike Path that will run from Centennial Park to Irwin Bridge Road near Menard County.
County officials say the path will give people the opportunity to see a different part of Sangamon County.
"You're going to see some nature, you're going to see an area of Sangamon County that you don't get to see every day," Sangamon County engineer Brian Davis said. "It's a very unique area once you get across this structure here."
Construction of the bike trail is expected to be completed this fall.
