Rep. Bustos Demands Approved Funding For Amtrak Line Be Released
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) —
An Illinois congresswoman is asking Governor Rauner to release previously approved state funding for an Amtrak line that would run from Chicago to the Quad Cities.
Democratic Representative Cheri Bustos says she has met with business leaders and families across central and western Illinois who say there's a need for the line.
Bustos says the federal government has already provided an extension for the state to take advantage of federal funds for this project but it expires June 30th.
Passenger rail service between Chicago and the Quad Cities ended in 1978.
