Rauner Touts Revamped Education Plan
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WICS) —
The battle over equal and adequate school funding has Governor Bruce Rauner and top lawmakers from both sides of the aisle promoting revamped funding formulas.
In Rockford on Thursday, the governor touted the record amount of funding in last year's piecemeal budget, but says now it's time to re-examine how that money gets distributed.
He reiterated that until the funding formula is revamped, too many schools throughout the state will not have equal opportunities.
"So low income neighborhoods get more state support so we can have equal quality and high caliber schools in every neighborhood regardless of income level may be," Gov. Bruce Rauner, R-Illinois, said.
Rauner again touted the education funding commission that delivered their report Wednesday.
That report could serve as the basis for Rauner’s education plan, which is expected to be part of his budget address in 2 weeks.
