UPDATE:

New developments are emerging after a severely burned body was found at the U of I Performing Arts Center.

The body has been identified as that of a 21-year-old University of Illinois student.

According to the Champaign County Coroner, the incident appears to be a suicide.

Officials believe the man doused himself in gasoline and set himself on fire around 3 a.m. with a gas can that was found by his body.

Our sister station, Fox Champaign, spoke with students who said they’re still in shock with the news.

"It's a hard thing when you're on campus and, well, just in life in general. You have to deal with stressors, just things that drag you down, things that drag you back. Finals, other stuff like that. I know how that feels,” University of Illinois theater student, Alex Gill, said.

The Coroner's Office has notified who they believe to be the victim's family, but they are waiting on dental records to officially confirm his identity before releasing his name.
