Multiple cars collide on I-74 Wednesday morning
ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) —
A multiple-vehicle accident occurred Wednesday morning on I-74 at the eastbound mile marker 190, right before St. Joseph.
Traffic was backed up soon after the crash due to a right lane closure.
Illinois State Police said a vehicle was traveling eastbound on I-74, a half mile east of mile marker 190 when three other vehicles stopped due to a traffic back-up in a construction zone.
The first vehicle rear-ended a second vehicle, causing a chain reaction to a third vehicle. The vehicle that first struck the others traveled off the roadway to the right and crossed back into the right lane of traffic where it sideswiped the fourth car.
Two drivers were transported to a local hospital via Arrow Ambulance Service.
The first vehicle was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
