Mommy Matters: Convincing Your Teens To Wear Winter Coats
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) —
When temperatures outside dip below freezing, it may seem like a no-brainer to reach for a winter coat and gloves.
But for any parent with a teenager, they know the battle that can come with the suggestion of bundling up.
Doctor Kimerbly Giuliano is a pediatrician at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital.
She says children of all ages need to be kept warm and recommends talking to your teen and letting them know where you stand on the issue.
“Take your child shopping and find a coat that you can mutually agree on. If it meets the teen’s ‘cool-factor’ as well as the parent’s warmth requirements, then that probably is going to be your best bet for mutual buy-in,” said Giuliano.
Doctor Giuliano suggests educating your teen on the effects of frostbite and how quickly it can set in, is also a good way to help them learn the importance of dressing appropriately during the cold weather months.
