Model Train Fair Rolls Into The Capital City
One of the largest train shows in the state rolled into the Capital City.
The Springfield Railroad Society hosted its annual train fair Sunday at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
There were more than 75 vendors where enthusiasts could buy, sell or trade their model trains.
The show has been around for more than a decade, and vendors say they hope it encourages more kids to become interested in trains.
"In this hobby you'll see a lot of older people and then sometimes you'll see the older people getting rid of their stuff too because they just can't do this anymore so you like to see the kids come in," said Harlin Schmidt, a model train vendor.
The Springfield Railroad Society has a model railroad set up year round in the basement of the Washington Park Pavilion.
You can check it out on Thursday nights at 7 p.m.
