Springfield's eastside farmers market is going mobile.

Saint John’s Hospital, genHkids and the city of Springfield are launching the new mobile farmers market.

Saint John’s donated the trailer that's become the new fresh market on wheels.

They hope taking the program on the road will increase access to fresh fruits and veggies for people who don't live close to those resources.

"We thought it would be a great idea to take the food to the people and into neighborhoods that maybe never had a farmers market or a grocery store nearby to purchase fresh produce," said Andy Heck, gardner educator, genHkids.

The mobile farmers market will accept credit and debit cards as well as cash and link cards.

Organizers say there is no set schedule right now since the mobile market is so new.

The Mobile Farmers Market is available by request on a limited basis through October 2016.
