Local Authorities Stress the Importance of Preschool
VIRDEN, Ill. (WICS) —
Sen. Andy Manar and the sheriffs from Montgomery, Christian and Macoupin counties visited a pre-kindergarten class in Virden Thursday.
The group read to the children in the state funded preschool program and talked about the need for programs like it across the state.
Many law enforcement officials stress these early education programs, make a difference in preventing future crimes.
"I think it's been proven in fact from statistics, that if the kids get educated at an early age, that they succeed later in life. If they don't get the education early in life, we end up dealing with them later on in life," said Christian County Sheriff Bruce Kettelkamp.
The sheriff say they are urging state leaders to make investments in preschool programs a priority in a state Budget.
