A 19-year-old Effingham resident, Alexander Ramos, was taken into custody Friday morning in connection with a residential burglary which was reported on April 20.

The Bureau of Patrol responded to a report of a burglary which had taken place at an apartment on Hillside Drive between 3:00 P.M. and 3:41 P.M. yesterday. Responding Officers found a rear window to the apartment broken, and a safe containing concert tickets and an undetermined amount of cash missing. Officers, along with The Bureau of Criminal Investigations, began an investigation into the incident, which resulted in identifying a possible suspect in the case.

Early Friday morning, Effingham Police received a report of suspicious activity in the Rollin Hills subdivision. Officers gathered information about the incident, including a license plate number for the suspect vehicle.

After determining the two incidents were possibly related, Officers alerted other agencies, including the Illinois State Police, of the suspect vehicle information. At approximately 4 a.m., an ISP District 10 Trooper observed the vehicle near Pesotum, and conducted a traffic stop. Ramos was taken into custody for questioning on the burglary, and transferred to Effingham County Jail where he was charged with Residential Burglary, a Class 1 Felony.
