Danville schools introduce robot to the classroom for students with autism (WICS)

Danville Public Schools have a new teacher named Milo, and he's a robot.

The Robokind robot helps teach students with autism to improve their social skills.

Danville Public Schools has three Milos.

They are the fifth district in Illinois to add these robots into their curriculum.

Milo interacts with students directly and with the help of tablets.

He has 11 different facial expressions and can even dance.

Teachers have had Milo in the classroom for only five days and are already seeing a difference.

"Students with autism typically don't make eye contact with anyone, whether that's adults or peers,” teacher at Mark Denman Elementary Michele Craig said. “When they say hello to somebody they'll kind of look down and they won't look right at the person. The first day we turned Milo on for this student, Milo looks up and says hello, she looked directly at Milo's face and said hello."

Teachers said they are very excited to work with Milo in the classroom and dive into even more lesson plans he offers.
