Comptroller Tours Women's Center, Talks Budget Impasse Impact
CARBONDALE, Ill. (WICS) —
Illinois has now gone months without a spending plan, and Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza is touring the state to highlight the impact the budget impasse is having on social service agencies.
Wednesday she toured the Women's Center in Carbondale.
The agency serves women in eight counties and has been open over 44 years.
"It's really sad to think because of the budget impasse, that domestic violence shelters were left out of the budget entirely," Comptroller Susana Mendoza said. "If we don't have a budget passed soon, they are likely to have to close their doors."
Domestic shelters are just one of the many agencies that have gone without state funding more months.
