Cold weather causing malfunction at Chatham water tower
CHATHAM, Ill. (WICS) —
Water is overflowing from the Chatham water tower creating quite the sight in the village.
Village officials in Chatham say a sensor that automatically tells the pumps when the water tower is full is malfunctioning because of the cold and water is overflowing out of the top of the tower. For now, they are turning the pump on and off manually. When it overflows, they turn the pump off. When they need more water in the tower they turn them back on.
The company that makes the sensor is coming to Chatham to find an alternative solution for the village until the weather warms back up this weekend. They will also discuss a long-term solution to this problem since there’s still two more months of winter to go.
