Camp Compass Gets Huge Financial Boost

Camp Compass in Springfield is getting a huge financial boost.

Thursday, the organization received a $25,000 check after winning the State Farm's Neighborhood Assist Grant.

Every year, State Farm holds a program allowing people to vote for their favorite charity out of 2,000 nominees, and the organization with the most votes wins the grant.

Camp Compass officials say this shows the impact a community can have on local charities.

"It's very humbling to know that this is something that we could never achieve on our own, this is something that's only possible with the entire Springfield community rallying behind us," Camp Compass Executive Director Molly Berendt said.

Camp Compass works to provide academic programs for homeless and at risk elementary students in District 186.

More than 72,000 people cast almost two million votes during the voting period.
