Aldermen try to block SCVB acting director
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) —
Tuesday, five aldermen co-sponsored and brought up an emergency passage to block a new acting director from the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau.
This comes as the past director left after just two days.
Mayor Jim Langfelder introduced a Benedictine University's Springfield campus director, Janet Kirby, to be the new acting director last week.
She would be in the term for about a year.
The emergency ordinance to defund the SCVB budget by $100,000, which would have been Kirby's salary, failed 6-4.
Some aldermen, who voted to defund that part of the budget, include Ward 6 Ald. Kristin Dicenso, who said they needed someone with more tourism experience.
The emergency passage needed 8 votes to pass Tuesday.
Now this consideration will go through the normal process and starts over at Committee of the Whole next week.
