Illinois Doctors Come Together For Surviving Cancer Symposium
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) —
Doctors from across central Illinois met in Springfield Friday, to talk about improving treatment for cancer patients.
The symposium was called “Surviving Cancer: It Takes A Village,” and focused on how providers can work together to provide the best care possible.
One presenter we spoke with explained that a lot more goes into treatment than you might think.
"It's just really important to recognize that there's a lot more that goes into cancer treatment than just the chemotherapy, the radiation, or the surgery, we are trying to bring in providers from all different fields to really treat the person as a whole," said Patricia Fank, assistant professor of clinical psychiatry.
The symposium was sponsored by the Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU.
