Federal court blocks changes to birth control mandate
WASHINGTON D.C. (WICS) —
A federal court has blocked the Trump Administration from rolling back the Obamacare birth control mandate.
The U.S. District Court in Northern California issued a preliminary injunction against the White House's interim rules.
The Trump Administration issued the rules in October that would make it easier for employers to deny insurance coverage of contraceptives for women.
Now employers can cite religious or moral objections in order to deny the coverage.
Attorney Generals in California, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and New York filed lawsuits in response.
The Justice Department says it disagrees with Thursday's ruling and is evaluating its next steps.
