A new study sheds light on how addictive cigarettes can be
At least three out of five people who try a cigarette end up becoming daily smokers.
That's according to new data from the Tobacco Dependence Research Unit at Queen Mary University of London.
In the United States, The CDC reports almost nine out of ten smokers first experimented with cigarettes before they were 18.
Last year 8% of high school students reported smoking in the previous 30 days.
That's down from almost 16% in 2011.
Current efforts to curb smoking among young people include higher costs, media messaging, and prohibiting smoking in public places.
