Mommy Matters: Beating The Winter Blues

Cold temperatures and weeks of dreary weather can take a toll on our mood and in some cases, we can feel the winter blues.

While it's more common in adults, children can face variations of depression due to the winter months.

Doctor Carlson at St. John's Children's Hospital in Springfield said prevention is the key,

"Children do get stir crazy in the cold months, so it's important to keep them active and engaged and to be on alert if your children are having abnormal signs of decreased activity or attentiveness," said Dr. Douglas Carlson, MD

Other signs to look out for are a change in mood, a loss of interest in things they normally enjoy doing, and changes in their sleeping or eating habits.

If it appears to be severe, you should contact your child's doctor.
