Now, another sign of the times, updated recommendations from the American Diabetes Association telling doctors to consider screening some obese children and adolescents for type 2 diabetes.
It's the type of diabetes associated with obesity and it is linked to heart disease, eye damage, kidney, and skin problems among other issues.
Complications were traditionally seen in adults.
Doctors said the best defense is prevention with a healthy diet and physical activity.
